Rainbow Lodge is located at the mouth of the Big Two Hearted River. It overlooks Lake Superior--the ”Big Sea” of the north country. The 32 mile drive from Newberry or 35 Miles from Paradise will take you into the heart of the Lake Superior State Forest. The beauty and romance of Heminway’s Big Two Hearted is yours when you relax at Rainbow Lodge. The Big Two Hearted is rated amount the top ten trout streams in the U.S.A.
Many nearby lakes are located nearby with walleye, northern pike, perch, bass and panfish with public access and campgrounds. Spring and Fall steelhead fishing. Summer whitefishing. Close to many inland lakes and state forest campgrounds.
ORV, biking and hiking trails (North Country Trail) are nearby.
Rainbow Lodge is ideally located for your snowmobiling pleasure with groomed trails starting from you door going to Paradise to the east and to the west to Pine Stump Junction, Grand Marais and Munising. We are located in the Lake Superior snow belt which gives us one of the longest seasons in the state. If we don’t have snow, no one does. (Cafe open from Christmas through March during snowmobile season).
Rainbow Lodge has modern motel units equipped with private toilets, showers, comfortable beds, automatic heat and kitchenettes. Five housekeeping cabins are also available. Two larger cabins were built in 2004. All of our units are open year round.
The store at Rainbow Lodge is stocked with all your vacation needs--fishing tackle, bait and licenses, groceries, souvenirs, ice, beer, wine, package take-out liquor, along with unleaded, regular and premium gasoline and oil and other supplies for your convenience. We also have bottle gas refill, public telephone. Two-Hearted Canoe Trips and canoe livery with pickup and delivery service on the Two-Hearted River.
A grass landing strip, about 2000 feet in length is located next to us. This will enable you to fly in and out of Rainbow Lodge. Please phone for information about this.
In addition to state forest campground on the river mouth with 47 campsites, we have a private rustic campground on the hill by Rainbow Lodge. There are many others nearby on inland lakes, all primitive.
