Marenisco is located off US-2 in Gogebic County. Named for Mary Enid Scott, wife of the founder. The last stage holdup in the United States took place on the Gogebic Stage Coach Road 10 miles from Marenisco on August 16, 1889. This road is still being used a scenic drive. This village was in Ontonagon County when founded by Alfred L. Corry, of Milwaukee, in 1886. It was platted by Edward H. Rummele, of Sheboygan, also from Wisconsin in 1886. A station on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Robert Fair became its first postmaster on June 4, 1886. Named for the wife of E. H. Scott, a timber producer, Mary Enid Scott, taking the first three letters of her name, Mar-eni-sco. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D. Considered by many to be one of upper Michigan's most picturesque waterfalls, Agate Falls is located on the middle branch of the Ontonagon River. The falls are created as the river finds its way over an extended shelf of terraced sandstone. The resulting waterfall is a broad band of interlacing cascades and small falls nearly 40 feet high. Access to view the falls is via an improved, accessible foot trail. Parking, water, toilets and picnic tables are available at the park, which is generally open from early May through late October.

Lake Gogebic State Park covers 360 acres and nearly a mile of lake frontage on the west shore of the largest inland lake in the Upper Peninsula.
