Ludington, Michigan

Settlement of the area dates from 1847. John P. Sedam was its pioneer, general merchant.  David A. Melendy became its first postmaster on June 1, 1864.  Named for James Ludington who had large timber investments in the region.  Its plat was recorded in 1867.  Incorporated as a city in 1873.
