Iron River is located at the junction of US-2 and M-189 in Iron County. Named for the river and the great number of iron mines in the vicinity, which is the western end of the Menominee Iron Range. Economic mainstays today are tourism and many second homes and retirement homes on lakes and near the Ski Brule ski resort.
