Paulding, Michigan

Paulding is located on US-45 in Ontonagon County.  Named for the Paulding Lumber Company in 1892.  The Paulding Lights are the mysterious red and white lights that appear for no apparent reason in Paulding, Michigan. These lights have been the source of much speculation, is there a scientific explaination for the cause? The Bond Falls flowage affords great fishing for great bass, pike, and walleye. Duck, goose and grouse hunting is also good in the area. The Paulding Lumber Company set up camp here in 1891.  It was given a station on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in 1892.  A post office named Roselawn, a few miles north, was transferred here and renamed Paulding on August 19, 1893, with Fred Barnett as its first postmaster. Informational excerpts from Michigan Place Names, by Walter Romig, L.H.D.
