Walhalla is a small unincorporated community located on US 10 between Baldwin and Ludington. Walhalla is a little more than one mile north of the Pere Marquette River. Walhalla also is the home office to the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival.  Originally an Indian village. Its first white settlement was named Merritt.  When the Pere Marquette Railroad came through its station here was named Manistee Junction and it was given a post in January, 1891.  It was renamed on February 8, 1905, by an admirer of Wagner's opera Die Valkyrie, Walhalla meaning the banquet hall of the gods.
